of course, not finished ranting yet

                the
Poetry Society
continued

Indeed, there are sure to be Societies
(as certain as there could be scholastic poetry venues) that do foster a committed program for growth and advancement of the “poetry” students’ goals. The trick, dear optimistic writer, is determining the legitimacy of any particular group’s value. And unfortunately, the answer lies in the initiate’s (oh please, let us dispense with the cloying sophomoric term “newbie’s”) determined investigation and desire to obtain a substantial basis for the writing of verse—and their strength in resisting the detrimental cultish aspects: overt socialization, mindless patronization of one’s works, dithering “contests” and witless writing assignments with no accountability that too late reveal themselves of little or nil value—and in fact engraft the antithesis onto any productive self-awareness and self-growth.

The time eventually comes: if one wants to walk the high-wire, one must, walk the high-wire.

after some consideration of selection specifics; to be continued…
