A few selections from another mountain writer…

Los Angeles to Santa Barbara
long hot hours
Saturday afternoon traffic

first-things-first
Fishermans’ Wharf
shredded crab in a paper cup
thick with cocktail sauce—

don’t forget the Coronas

-------------------------------------

Hollywood Boulevard
beneath dripping awnings
night doves huddle

-------------------------------------

lying on soft mountain carpet
I point out the Hunter,
Drinking Gourd and
Sirius the dog star
flickering in the indigo sky

Russell-buddy listens intently
ears cocked

my guess, to him
these words sound nothing
like truck-ride
McDonalds
or hamburger treat

  1. Good to see your work p.i.w. The shrimp, cocktail sauce and coronas are calling my name here on this 104 degree day in the desert. Love those night doves too.

  2. Good gracious Cynthia, that Santa B' shredded crab with sauce does indeed embody the flavor of that seaside community. And Coronas...MmmmM.

If you've ever made that Hwy trip from L.A. north (actually, west) over into the Camarillo valley, there is a visual treat there in about May-June. I'll see if I can sweet-talk ol' Max into running one of my others about that.

    Be well, plw
